2. Rest Easy My Pounding Heart, Pt. 1 (2012)
Original Story
February 22, 2016
*Originally written in December, 2011*
So begins the "Rest Easy My Pounding Heart" portion of the collection. Part one came after I had written part five on a whim. I was sitting in a classroom and came up with "Rest Easy My Pounding Heart, Pt. 5" first and was so pleased with the turn out of the piece, that I wanted to create an even shorter concept album within this seventeen piece collection. Part five is obviously the conclusion, but when I created part one, I used very similar lines to keep a cohesive, cyclical story to the five piece collection.
It starts in an idyllic-daydream scenario where man and woman (myself and the girl at the time) are cautiously optimistic about their budding feeling and romance for one another. There is an awkward, excited, anticipatory energy and a hidden discord between the two. Man is all in, woman is not; plain and simple.
While the lyrics for the mini-series are written in more of a fantasy-like tone, the message behind the piece is completely relatable to the real-life scenario as it had played out and the same goes for the remaining four installments.
"Rest Easy My Pounding Heart, Pt. 1" was the last one written in the series as I developed the story going backwards. It is supposed to paint a picture of that youthful enthusiasm towards young love. I hope that shows through.
Without further adieu:

Rest Easy My Pounding Heart, Pt. 1
So we’ll gauge the wind,
As it blows again.
Desires peeled off of our hearts,
Goodbye my wanting friends.
We’ll stand through the breeze,
As it flows with ease.
Eyes meeting for the first time,
Thaw through our heart’s wicked freeze.
Time stands still in the confined space,
Your breath turns platinum
In the anxious departure from your lips.
Elated rhythms from our chests,
Our shirts playing in harmony,
The bed shakes,
Our lives are uniting.
I’ll love you,
We’ll power through.
“You’re a hero!” I thought.
“I’m a fake,” You hid.
-end-
As it blows again.
Desires peeled off of our hearts,
Goodbye my wanting friends.
We’ll stand through the breeze,
As it flows with ease.
