Brandon Sutter's GWG Ends 2014 with Needed Victory

Brandon Sutter's late third period goal ended the Penguins' 2014 with a 2-1 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes at the Consol Energy Center.
Tied at one with less than two minutes remaining, a returning Beau Bennett found Sutter open in the high slot. Sutter's wrist shot beat Hurricanes goaltender Cam Ward on the blocker side to secure the needed two points.
Carolina Hurricanes' forward Eric Staal opened up the scoring with his ninth goal of season at 9:12 of the first period. A loose puck found its way to Staal in the slotted who snipped it past a stunnded Fleury.
Closing out the first period, Bennett, working down low in the corner, would find an open Chris Kunitz. Kunitz, from the near faceoff dot would beat Ward short side for his 11th of the season with less than 22 seconds to go in the first frame.
The Penguins wrapped this portion of the season 23-9-5 and are tied atop the Metropolitan Division with the New York Islanders. The Tampa Bay Lightning visit the Penguins on January 2nd for the first game of 2015. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 P.M.
