Wish You Were Here
December 4, 2014
What starts out as a nice getaway from Australia to Cambodia, four friends find their lives turned upside down as an unthinkable event rattles them to their cores. David (Joel Edgerton) and Alice (Felicity Price) return home to their two children with their third on the way soon with a dark cloud hovering over their heads as Alice's sister's boyfriend, Jeremy (Antony Starr) mysteriously vanished in the South Asian country. But that is only one of their problems surrounding their week away.
Steph (Teresa Palmer) and David shared a night of passion that shatters Alice's fragile state and causes an immense amount of tension between the "happy" couple. The familial triangle causes an uneasiness with all of those involved and forces Alice's to make life threatening decisions not only to herself, but to her unborn child as well.

David's paranoia eats away at him over his lustful, yet drunken night with Steph and his even more buried secret that is not revealed until the final moments of the film.
Flashbacks between the trip and current day scenarios create a puzzle that fills itself in throughout, however, leaves some openings for one's own interpretations. Although the technique has been done dozens of times and can be considered as played out, it certainly works for this walking-on-eggshells, suspense filled film.
Wish You Were Here is a foreign thriller that is tense, gripping, and emotionally engaging throughout its hour and a half running time. Spectacular performances by Edgerton and co-writer Price are the driving force behind the film and Palmer's additions on-screen show a bright future that lies ahead for a very talented actress. It is a cerebral and heartfelt drama that is more than just a story about where Jeremy King is, but rather a study on the main characters and where they are emotionally.
It begs for each character to ask where each other has gone and how they wish they were there, in more than one way.
