PENGUINS SWEEP HOMESTAND
Game Review
November 1, 2014
Marc-Andre Fleury backstopped the Penguins to their fourth straight win and his third shutout in four contests. Chris Kunitz scored twice and proved just how dominant they can be when they decide to play to their fullest capabilities. The Buffalo Sabres looked all out of sorts, especially on the penalty kill as the Penguins went 3-for-5.
Goals by Kunitz, Blake Comeau, Patric Hornqvist, and Evgeni Malkin established the Penguins big boys as permanent threats all year. Malkin's 10 game point streak has been dominant, racking up five goals, all on the powerplay, and ten assists.
The Penguins dominated the Sabres from start to finish and to be completely honest, I did not see one negative thing all night. The defense was spectacular and the offense speaks for itself. Aside from passing up several shot opportunities, the Penguins played a near flawless game and with Fleury, Sidney Crosby, and the aforementioned names clicking on all cylinders. This Penguins team is on fire right now.
They return to action on Tuesday night against the Minnesota Wild, a team they have struggled with in the past. As long as the Penguins can find themselves on the powerplay, things may trend upward for them in terms of success against the Wild. Also, with Minnesota's abysmal powerplay unit, look for the Penguins' penalty kill to continue its strong success (killing 26 straight).
