Rest Easy My Pounding Heart, Pt. 3 (2012)
Original Story
February 27, 2016
*Originally written February, 2012*
The third part of this mini-series brings the lovers back together again. At this point, we're in the settling stage of the relationship, not in terms of being chained down to one another, but more that the honeymoon period is over, more or less. The excitement of realizing that it had finally matriculated is gone and we're left with trying to establish our own identity.
The piece is a bit darker both in imagery, but tone as well. Hindsight being what it is, we probably never have should have gotten as far as we did, but the fact is, at the time it was one rapidly moving day at a time. It blurred and before I knew it, it ended up where it did. But, at this point, I was starting to see some of the imperfections that were maybe more apparent to the unbiased eyes. I'm sure I had my faults. Hell, I know I had my faults and I can only imagine the counterstory to this piece from the other side, but that may never see the light of day.
Essentially, this is the turning point piece. This is where the sweet sentimentality starts to fade away and the realism of young love begins to rear its head. The next few pieces are going to be a bit more depressing in nature, but we'll cross those bridges when we wallow through this one.
Without further adieu:

Rest Easy My Pounding Heart, Pt. 3
Laying in the high grass,
We got lost in the fields
Watching clouds
And dandelion seeds
Sail through the endless horizons.
Those were our hopes;
Those were our dreams;
Silent…it got darker.
Our hearts beat slower
As the black rolled in.
Stealing desire from our chests,
The shaking of hollow ribs
Drummed against empty lungs.
My eyes remained open,
The clouds broke.
You’d fallen asleep.
We’d silently weep.
“I’m here with you,” I muttered.
“You’re unknowingly alone,” You yelled
-end-
