Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Nashville Predators
Fleury Blanks Predators, Collects 29th Shutout
October 25, 2014
The Pittsburgh Penguins found themselves in the win column once again, shutting out the Nashville Predators on the road by a score of 3-0. Marc-Andre Fleury stopped all 25 shots for his 29th career shutout.
Sidney Crosby put the Penguins ahead 1-0 at 6:21 of the first period on only the Penguins second shot. After a loose puck found its way near the crease, Crosby's second effort slid it underneath the pad of Predators' netminder Pekka Rinne.
Two powerplay goals in the third period cemented the victory for the Penguins, who are now 4-2-1 on the season. The lethal powerplay went two-for-three with goals by Evgeni Malkin and Pascal Dupuis, their third goals of the season. Malkin's redirect from in front of the crease found it's way behind Rinne who was sliding from the far post to the near post.
Dupuis, who rarely plays on the man-advantage, backhanded a loose puck past Rinne to give the Penguins the three goal advantage. That goal was his 400th career point.
Marc-Andre Fleury assisted on the Malkin powerplay tally. Crosby collected two assists to give him a three point night (G, 2A).
The win put a blemish on Nashville's record, handing them their first regulation loss of the season (5-1-2).
The New Jersey Devils visit the Consol Energy Center on Tuesday to take on the Penguins with a puck drop scheduled for 7:00 P.M.
