Dean Ambrose
Recently, Dean Ambrose became the longest reigning US Champion in WWE history and the third longest reigning champion of all-time. After winning the title from Kofi Kingston at Extreme Rules in 2013, his near year long reign has been called into question several times.
Ambrose has only really defended the title several times on television or PPV. Bouts involving RVD, Mark Henry, and .....is that it? That's how low key his title defenses have been, but in Ambrose brings a sense of honor to the US belt; a purpose if you will.
While the Intercontinental Title used to be WWE's way of putting a belt on the next big superstar, the workload superstar, they have not really pushed the importance of that belt as of late. Curtis Axel's career was supposed to skyrocket with his association with Paul Heyman and IC title, but now he is currently teamed with Ryback, forming the horribly named "Rybaxel" tag team. Big E's reign, though longer than Axel's is just as forgettable.
Ambrose's title, while not defended, has seen spotlight countless times in the main event of Raw, Smackdown, and various PPV's. The image of the belt on a future single's main eventer is a tease for us Ambrose fans waiting for his true time to shine.
For anyone who has followed Dean Ambrose's career for any amount of time, you all know that his prowess on the mic is untouched and unrivaled. Bray Wyatt is yes, good and captivating, but his promos are too gimicky. CM Punk would often blur the line of storyline and kayfabe and that thrilled the traditional wrestling fan. Ambrose, however, is one of those talents that when he speaks, you believe every word he says.
His promos as Jon Moxley from his indie days are the best works on the mic I've ever heard in my life. Every word is chosen specifically to enhance the promo, but they are all done on the fly. His facial mannerisms set him further apart from everybody. He embodies his character so well, it's scary. Don't believe me? Watch. These.
Ambrose is wrestling's present and future. While Roman Reigns may be the first member of The Shield to reach the promised land of becoming the WWE World Heavyweight Champion, Ambrose will be staring at him from across the ring shortly after, challenging for that belt. He is the next big time heel in this company and if you thought his work up until now was impressive, "Dean Ambrose is about to blow the doors off everything!"
