Buffalo Sabres vs. Pittsburgh Penguins
Kunitz Strikes Twice in Fourth Consecutive Win
November 1, 2014
The Pittsburgh Penguins swept their recent three game home stand with a convincing 5-0 victory over the Buffalo Sabres. Marc-Andre Fleury posted his second shutout in as many games and third in four contests.
Chris Kunitz opened up the scoring with his sixth of the season, backhanding a rebound under the right pad of Jonas Enroth at 4:26 of the first period.
The second period brought upon more offense for the Penguins. Blake Comeau wristed home his third of the season, coming down the slot and ripping the puck under the crossbar at 11:54. On their first powerplay opportunity of the night, Patric Hornqvist finished off a tic-tac-toe passing play, shooting the puck under the glove and between the blocker of Enroth with 3:51 remaining in the middle frame.
Kunitz would get on the scoreboard once more, tipping in a Kris Letang point shot on the powerplay just 2:33 into the third period. Evgeni Malkin, who assisted on Hornqvist's powerplay goal, scored one of his own, blasting home a slapshot for his fifth goal of the season, all on the powerplay.
Malkin's two point night extend his point streak to ten games (5G,10A).
Fleury stopped all 18 shots on the night, running his shutout streak to 134:46. In Fleury's last four contests, he has stopped 95 of 98 shots. The Penguins penalty kill was perfect once more (5/5) increasing their consecutive kill mark to 26. The dominant powerplay put on another exhibition, going 3-for-5.
The Penguins return to action Tuesday night as they begin their five game roadtrip in Minnesota to face the Wild. Puck drop is scheduled for 8:00 P.M.
