To Madison (Kirsti) (2011)
Original Story

*Original written in May, 2011*
This song is by far the most personal for me. And I personally think it's the best work I've ever written. It's my personal masterpiece.
I've been writing lyrics since I was fourteen years old in eighth grade. I remember my first song was written in some god awful algebra class. God, I hate math.
In my eleven years and hundreds of songs and worlds I've created within the margins, and some outside, "To Madison" is the one I'm most absolutely proud of and will be until the end of my days. Like most of my material, it was about a relationship and if I'm being honest, it was the most important relationship I've ever been a part of.
Superlatives amassing, this relationship literally changed my life and it would take forever to explain how it still affects me even five years later. I could describe every detail from our first encounter all the way up through the tumultuous ending and up until today after years of no communication, but that's not the point of this section. Is it weird that I can remember all of those moments? I don't believe so; I always remember the things that I care(d) about.
This song was not written for a girl named Madison. It was about a night leading up to a flight, as you'll see in the first two lines. And the song was written on said flight. It was going to be delivered to my ex-girlfriend once I could properly compose the music for it. Sadly, for me at least, things ended before that point, but I have since recorded it. Might post audio at a later date.
This song is very literal. There really aren't any hidden messages in the lyrics. It's a straight shot. Lastly, aside the "To Madison" title, in parenthesis should be the female's name. However, for confidentiality, I leave it off, but hopefully that person reads this and at least has a flashback or some kind of memory stir up. Regardless...
UPDATE: Screw it. Name's up there.
Without further adieu:

To Madison (Kirsti)
That night before I flew,
To Madison;
Lying on your couch at 3 A.M.,
It was so dark.
The light from the clock
On the oven
Was the only
Illumination
And it never felt more right.
It never felt more right.
Whispering,
Not to wake your Dad,
Who was sleeping
Right above us.
Line after line
Separated
With heavy sighs,
We said everything we wanted to.
We said everything we needed to.
And as you closed your eyes,
Your breath dancing on my throat.
The home of the perfect words just spoken.
My arms; pins and needles.
I never thought I’d be so comfortable
Being so numb.
Sleep tight, my precious.
Sleep tight, my lover.
Sleep tight, my precious.
Sleep tight, my lover.
Sleep tight, dear.
-end-

It never felt more right.

-end-
For you, Dear. Five years too late.
