Pittsburgh Penguins vs Toronto Maple Leafs
Dupuis' two goals Ends Penguins' Roadtrip on High Note
November 14, 2014
Pascal Dupuis' two tallies pushed the Pittsburgh Penguins past the Toronto Maple Leafs, 2-1, on the road to end their five game roadtrip with a 4-1-0 record. Thomas Greiss made 30 saves for his second victory of the season.
After a scoreless first period, Dupuis would break the scoreless tie with a redirect standing in front of the Maple Leafs netminder, Jonathan Bernier. With quite some time in the offensive zone, the puck was worked back towards the blueline to Christian Ehrhoff. His wrist shot from the point was tipped in by Dupuis for his fifth goal of the season with 2:42 remaining in the second period.
Just fifteen seconds into the third period, Dupuis would slap home his second of the game and sixth of the season. Working along the boards, Sidney Crosby threw a backhanded no-look pass into the slot where the wide open Dupuis blasted the puck into the back of the net to put the Penguins up 2-0.
The Toronto Maple Leafs would battle all night along in a tight checking contest, eventually getting on the board with a shot from defenseman Cody Franson at 6:31 of the third period. Franson's point shot found it's way through traffic and fooled netminder Greiss.
Despite several power play opportunities, the Maple Leafs were unable to capitalize as they went 0-for-6 with the man advantage, including an opportunity late in the third. Greiss made an incredible stick save Phil Kessel to keep the Penguins ahead and hold on for the 2-1 victory.
Bernier stopped 38 shots in a strong effort in net for the Maple Leafs.
The Penguins wrapped up their five game roadtrip and return to the Consol Energy Center where they host the New York Rangers, their lone blemish on the five game swing. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 P.M.
