Penguins Down Undefeated Islanders
Game Review- New York ISlanders vs. Pittsburgh Penguins
October 18, 2014
The Pittsburgh Penguins came back with a vengeance against the New York Islanders after letting the game on Thursday slip away from them against the Dallas Stars. An early Islander goal did not deter the Penguins from continuing their game plan by possessing the puck, outshooting the opposition (which they've done every game thus far), and methodically dissecting the opponent's penalty killing units. It was an overall impressive bounce back game and a team that was determined to play to the best of their capabilities.

Positives:
- Evgeni Malkin was an absolute monster tonight. He did not take a penalty, he was super effective offensively and even more so defensively. The backcheck he had on Travis Hamonic in the second period was exceptional.
- Nick Spaling is incredibly underrated. He makes a difference every shift, whether it be with puck possession, working hard on the forecheck, getting a shot or two on net or making a big hit; Spaling is very under utilized.
- Patric Hornqvist is by far the best acquisition the Penguins made all offseason. Twelve shots on goal, two goals and an assist tonight. He is on absolute fire.
- Sidney Crosby racked up his 500th assist in his career. Congrats Captain Crosby.
- Marc-Andre Fleury looked solid in goal tonight. Made some big saves and at key moments.
- Rob Scuderi is having a redemption year. Outstanding on the penalty kill tonight.
- Speaking of the penalty kill, fantastic. Did not allow a goal tonight and was aggressive, frustrating the talented Islanders' offense.
Negatives:
- I'm becoming a broken record about Christian Ehrhoff, but again, another mediocre at best performance.
- The lack of playing time Zach Sill received tonight was criminal. I understand that he will never be on the powerplay and will rarely play on the penalty kill, but he was very under utilized tonight.
